WW2

WW2

The Campaign: This game brought its campaign back to boots-on-ground. From playing through this entire campaign, I can confidently say that this campaign is amazing. Unlike some previous COD campaign, this campaign had some memorable characters. The main protagonists of this game was Cpl. “Red” Daniels, which was the character that you play as throughout the campaign, Robert Zussman who is essentially your bestfriend, Sgt. Pierson, Lt. Turner, Frank Aiello and Drew Stiles who are also your friends. Your first mission is based on the D-day attack in Normandy. Your character gets off his boat as you see your fellow comrades being killed left and right, and this game is one of the most realistic CODs in recent years, thus whenever a fellow soldier dies, you can see limbs falling off, heads flying, etc. As you run through the fire of enemy machine gunners, you are faced with many “Krauts” as they are called in game which are Nazi soldiers. You make your way through numerous bunkers trying to clear them out. On the final bunker, you are attacked by an enemy who surprises and sends you to the ground. As you are trying to regain consciousness, you see your bestfriend Zussman being stabbed in the stomach by the Kraut. You end up killing him with a helmet but the damage is done, Zussman was losing a lot of blood. You drag Zussman to safety as you have only a pistol to defend yourself. You leave Zussman behind so that he can be helped as you go on with the mission. You make your way through a forest and invade a little group of Krauts as you use an AA gun to take down enemy planes that are firing down friendly tanks on another side of Normandy. After destroying all the planes, your next objective is to destroy 3 tanks, once completing that, you are ordered to assist a friendly squad as they are pinned down by Krauts. You come in on a Jeep shooting at every enemy that you can and that is where the mission ends. This mission was a very good way to start off the game’s campaign with such a history-filled environment such as the attack on Normandy that happened in real life in 1944. The game also introduced a new health pack system which meant that you could not just regenerate health like in other games. As you progress through the campaign, you keep playing as Cpl. Daniels, you are given missions such as defending a little house with French resistance, defending a bridge from enemy Krauts, etc. In the last mission, you are in an enemy base and friendlies come regroup with you to start an attack. Shots are traded amongst you and the Krauts. Its you and Zussman and walking through the snowy terrain. You are surprise-attacked by Krauts and instead of killing you, they take Zussman as hostage. You can’t do anything about it but you decide to take a friendly Jeep without permission, you end up not saving him. The rest of the mission is full of cutscenes and civilians celebrating that the Nazis were no longer invading their country. The last cutscene shown is one of the saddest in a COD. Daniels and Sgt. Pierson go into a old concentration camp and what they find is disturbing. They see fresh footprints which lead to a very fragile Zussman about to be murdered but luckily you interfere with that and you kill the Kraut that was about to kill Zussman. That essentially concludes the campaign, the rest is just cutscenes of your character, Daniels, returning home from the war to his pregnant wife. Overall, this campaign has been one of the best in the past 5 years in my opinion. It had a good cast of characters, something that the past 3 years of Call of Duty campaigns haven’t had.
